WHAT MAKES THIS FLOOR UNIQUE:

Czar Floors has claimed victory in not only the Best Use of Technology category, but also the prestigious Members’ Choice award for their exceptional work on a project in Queens, New York.

As a company that has mastered the art of computer-aided design, Czar Floors is no stranger to winning in this category. The project was part of a whole-house design, spanning about 4,000 square feet, with the room itself covering approximately 800 square feet. The house features many other intricate wood floor designs as well.

The most significant challenge in this project was the customer’s insistence on free “floating” inlays, which were not enclosed inside medallions. This meant inlay elements had to be pre-cut at the factory, as on-site installers would not be able to route very intricate inlays otherwise.

To achieve the intricate design, Czar Floors created a precise AutoCAD of the room using laser tools to fit the shape of the space, while accounting for columns, fireplaces, and other obstacles. By dividing the entire floor into manageable, labeled segments and providing an installation map for the installers, Czar Floors ensured minimal effort was required on-site for assembly, resulting in an elegantly fitted “puzzle.”

The wood segments were made 5/16” thick and face-taped on a mesh net, allowing flexibility and easy adjustments on-site. These wood layers were installed over Baltic birch plywood, creating an engineered, very stable construction. The wood selection was picked by the client with Czar Floors’ guidance, ensuring contrasting and harmonious colors.

This outstanding project demonstrates Czar Floors’ expertise in using technology to create unique and intricate designs, earning them well-deserved recognition in both the Best Use of Technology and Members’ Choice award categories.
