Criswell Davis, an internationally recognized American hardwood expert, passed away on October 3, 2022 at the age of 71.
Davis was a 34-year veteran of the forest products industry. He worked for Frank Miller Lumber Company for more than 20 years. Then, continued his work of educating and inspiring designers and architects about the use of sustainable, carbon sequestering North American hardwood as president of Mighty Oaks Consulting. He was founding director of the Timber and Forestry Foundation, representing American-based companies and trade organizations associated with timber and related industries.
In 2019, Davis wrote and delivered a TEDx talk about how American hardwoods improve our lives. The talk has been shared with thousands of people around the world.
Passionate about the use of American hardwood in biophillic design, Davis recently contributed an article on the topic for Hardwood Floors magazine. In this article, he spoke about traveling the world, talking to more than 15,000 architects and designers about using hardwoods in their designs. He educated readers about biophillic design, forest resource management, and the great sustainability story the hardwood industry has to share with the design community.
