Gene Wengert, aka The Wood Doctor, is well known within our industry providing instruction in wood manufacturing and diagnosis of manufacturing problems. The industry has recognized him as being able to translate the complex aspects of wood into practical procedures and solutions. He has worked in sawmills, dry kiln, and manufacturing plants. Products include flooring, drumsticks, furniture and cabinets, millwork and even RR ties. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Maple Flooring Manufacturers Association.
Gene began his career working at the US Forest Products Lab in Madison, WI, working on an early version of the solar heated lumber dryer. He then moved to Virginia tech as an Extension faculty member in Wood Products. Then he transferred back to Wisconsin as an Extension specialist at UW-Madison. Upon retirement from the University, he was granted Emeritus faculty status. He also started his consulting company, The Wood Doctor’s Rx LLC, providing education and analysis for wood manufacturers, He has written eight books and well over 600 articles on practical aspects of wood manufacturing.
