Armstrong & Derr Flooring Company Celebrate a 100-Year-Old Partnership

Donald R. Maier President and CEO Armstrong Flooring (pictured left) celebrates with Chet Derr Jr. President and CEO Derr Flooring Co. a 100 year business partnership during a recent dinner at Manufacturers Golf and Country Club.

For 100 years, Derr Flooring and Armstrong Flooring have partnered to bring Bruce hardwood products to retailers in New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.

While the Bruce brand, Armstrong and Derr are among the oldest floor covering names in the country, company executives believe age is not the only unique thing going for them. Rather, it’s a mutual commitment to service and quality, which sets them apart.

“We take great pride in being Armstrong Flooring’s longest tenured wood distributor. With new and exciting products being introduced this year, we are confident that Bruce Hardwood Floors will remain a dominant brand for years to come,” said Chester Derr Jr., Derr.

“This partnership has withstood the test of time and flourished thanks to Derr’s thoughtful leadership and a willingness to adapt in an ever-changing marketplace,” said Vincent Calabrese, Sales Manager for Armstrong Flooring. “I have been working with the Derr organization for 15 years and know them to be true professionals who work with integrity and value their customers.”

“The key to our long-term success is carrying quality products from great manufacturers such as Armstrong Flooring and supporting our customers,” said Chester Derr Jr. “In every generation, we have done things that have kept pace with the market and have allowed us to keep moving forward.” Today the business has grown significantly—employing over 150 people, operating six warehouses in four states, and utilizing more than 40 vehicles to deliver material to customers.

“The key to our mutual longevity is a laser focus on quality,” said Armstrong Flooring’s Calabrese. “We have maintained our relationship since 1918 and have kept it going because of great products and service. If you are going to commit yourself to excellence, you need to work with other firms with comparable mindsets. Our goal is to continue to grow together, hopefully for another 100 years,” said Calabrese.
