ABC Green Home 3.0, Featuring Armstrong Flooring, Earns Coveted Gold Nugget Honors

Judges for the 2017 Gold Nugget Awards have named the ABC Green Home 3.0 as a Grand Award winner in its annual competition, which honors architectural design and planning excellence and draws entries from throughout the world.

Located in Fullerton, California, the ABC Green Home 3.0 is the third iteration of the ABC (Affordable, Buildable, Certifiable) Green Home, which was used to educate and train builders, students, industry groups, and thousands of visitors before being made available to a deserving veteran and his family. The futuristic design of the home, created by Danielian Associates Architecture + Planning, has a simple mission: to create a series of Net-Zero-Energy homes that serve as examples of high-performance, energy-efficient homebuilding as California marches towards implementation of its Net Zero regulations in 2020.

Armstrong Flooring contributed its U.S.-made American Scrape Hickory” engineered floors.

ā€œArmstrong Flooringā€™s commitment to sustainability means we produce innovative and eco-friendly products for homes and buildings. Our American Scrape hardwood offers long-lasting hardwood beauty and durability. Manufactured in the U.S.A, a portion of the sales from the American Scrape collection supports Homes for Our Troops. Armstrong Floor Products is the exclusive flooring supplier to Homes for Our Troops, a national non-profit organization dedicated to helping wounded veterans achieve freedom and independence,ā€ said Christopher Moore, Senior Product Manager.

Now in its 54th year, the Gold Nugget Awards are the largest and most prestigious competition of its kind in the nation. They honor design and planning achievements in community and home design, green-built housing, site planning, commercial, retail, mixed-use development and specialty housing categories. Peninsula Publishing was proud to be a recipient of the prestigious Gold Nugget award for the ABC Green Home 3.0, which nabbed the title of ā€œBest Zero Net Energy Home Design.ā€

ā€œGold Nugget Award winners reflect our industryā€™s best, brightest and most innovative architects, planners and builder/developers,ā€ said Judging Chairman and Gold Nugget ceremonies administrator Lisa Parrish.

The home will be rated by seven certifications: six of the largest national energy ratings organizations, including LEED, Build it Green, The DOEā€™s Builder Challenge, ENERGY STARĀ® and The National Green Building Standard (NGBS) adopted by the NAHB as well as an indoor air quality rating from Wellness Within Your Walls and WaterSense.
