PID Floors announces the publication of its first children’s picture book, Out of the City, Into the Forest: A Children’s Picture Book About Trees, Nature, and Protecting Our Planet. Rooted in the company’s connection to wood and the natural world, the book invites young readers to discover the beauty of forests and develop an early appreciation for the trees that sustain our planet.
In the story, a family leaves the busy, noisy streets of New York City behind and ventures into a peaceful, magical forest. Through an engaging narrative and beautiful illustrations, children are introduced to the wonder of nature, the essential role trees play in life on Earth, and the importance of caring for the environment.
For PID Floors, the publication represents a meaningful extension of the company’s philosophy: a commitment to honoring the natural materials at the heart of its work while encouraging greater awareness of the environment they come from.
“Wood is at the heart of everything we do, and our work has always been connected to an appreciation for the natural environment,” said Steven Skutelsky, president of PID Floors, and father to three daughters. “With Out of the City, Into the Forest, we wanted to share that appreciation beyond the world of design and interiors. We hope the book inspires children to look more closely at the trees around them, ask questions about nature, and understand that caring for our planet begins with curiosity and wonder.”
Founded in 1989, PID Floors has made environmental stewardship an important part of its mission, supporting sustainability initiatives and continually educating its team and clients about the environmental considerations surrounding hardwood flooring. The new children’s book brings these values to a younger audience in an accessible and imaginative way. Designed for children ages 3–8, it offers families, educators, and caregivers an opportunity to start meaningful conversations about trees, forests, sustainability, and the everyday choices that can help protect the planet.
The project also reflects a broader belief at PID Floors: that an appreciation for natural materials should go hand in hand with an understanding of their origins. By introducing children to the importance of trees early in life, the company hopes to nurture a lasting sense of wonder, respect, and responsibility for the natural world.
