What’s Happening at NWFA: May Edition

Are you looking to get more involved in the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA)? Would you like to brush up your skills via an online class or in-person training? Below is a snapshot of some of the opportunities available from the NWFA in May 2025.

  • May 5-7: Stair Balustrade with Stairbuilders and Manufacturers Association (SMA) | St. Louis, MO. The Stair Balustrade instructional class is a three-day course that focuses on installation best practices for post-to-post and over-the-post systems. The class offers hands-on instructional training with student workstations specifically designed to enhance the understanding and practice of balustrade layout from the starting newel through handrail fittings and wall termination. The class teaches the student how to calculate handrail height, baluster spacing, lengths, and newel placement. Read more.
  • May 13-14: Precision Patterns: Medallions and Parquetry I Palo Duro Hardwoods – Denver, CO. A two-day in-person course designed for experienced wood floor professionals. Learn to produce a variety of medallion styles by hand, including symmetry of medallions, mosaics, and other decorative elements that become the focal-point of the flooring design. Learn to produce a variety of parquet patterns by hand, including developing and utilizing sleds and jigs, and installing them in any application. Read more.
  • May 13-16: Basic Installation and Sand + Finish I Ponders Hollow Custom Moulding & Flooring – Westfield, MA. These introductory level courses are for anyone who is new to the wood flooring industry. Choose from 2 Day Basic Installation, 2 Day Sand + Finish, or save money and register for the 4 Day Basic Installation and Sand + Finish combination. Read more.
  • May 13-16: Intermediate Sand and Finish + Certification Testing I NWFA Headquarters – St. Louis, MO. A three-day in-person intermediate level course for those with wood flooring experience. Includes in-depth training on general equipment maintenance, sanding multiple flooring types/species, unfinished/factory-finished, engineered/multidirectional/parquet flooring. Also includes floor flattening methods, minimizing the scratch patterns and efficient use of the professional sanding equipment. Read more.
  • May 20-23: Intermediate Installation + Certification Testing I Mondo Floors Inc. – Concord, ON. This three-day course includes in depth training on jobsite preparation, layout, understanding the science of wood, analysis of solid and engineered flooring, practice and instruction for nail/glue/floating installation methods of unfinished, factory finished, solid, and engineered flooring, as well as learning a variety of floor repair techniques and how to incorporate simple design elements into a floor.
