The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) has provided flooring for its 14th home in partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation R.I.S.E. program (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment). The R.I.S.E. program builds custom, specially adapted smart homes for severely wounded veterans and first responders.Ā The home dedication for U.S. Marine Corporal Sean Adams took place on May 19, in Maysville, Georgia. Flooring for the project was donated by NWFA member Mannington Mills.
Cpl Adams was injured in Afghanistan in 2012 when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near him, resulting in the loss of both his legs above the knee, injury to both his hands, and his right arm. He also lost partial vision in his left eye.
āItās truly gratifying to see how these homes impact the lives of these heroes and their families,ā says NWFA President and CEO, Michael Martin.Ā āFlooring is just a small part in helping these families address the everyday challenges they face, and NWFA is truly grateful to its members that help make this important work possible.ā
In addition to the 14 homes already completed, NWFA currently is working with its members to source wood flooring for 27 additional R.I.S.E. homes in various stages of planning and construction.Ā Currently, 40 NWFA member companies have donated product, logistics, and installation services in locations throughout the United States, with a total value of more than $1.3 million.Ā A list of all NWFA R.I.S.E. partners is listed at http://www.nwfa.org/giving-back.aspx.

This program makes an incredible difference in the lives of these veterans and their families. Not only do their lives improve, but it is immensely rewarding to those that provide products, services or assistance in any way. So inspired by NWFA’s response…this organization is a perfect fit for fulfilling the needs of others in such an inspiring way!!! Keep up the good work, NWFA and GSF!!!
