This tip is something that I picked up and learned while teaching at the Intro to UV/LED Cured Flooring class at the NWFA headquarters recently. With most waterbased finish products, the label tells you to mix them quite vigorously when you are prepping to coat, especially if it’s a two-component product. Always read the finish mixing instructions, as not all finishes need to be mixed the same. Some shake vigorously, some require stirring, and some require rocking back and forth.

Matt Thrane with Gehl Flooring Supply had a cool homemade tool to help with that during the school. You take a dowel rod and place zip ties to the end of the rod. Then, you put the end of the rod with the zip ties down inside the finish jug. Place the other end of the rod in a drill and turn the drill on for a little bit. It is quick, simple, costs pennies, and you can mix the finish well and really quickly.
