Luxury Wide Plank Wood Flooring

Never out of style, our hardwood flooring offers ever-expanding choices for today’s (and tomorrow’s) changing tastes.

Today’s flooring trends offer no end to the number of “here today, gone tomorrow” design styles. But when it comes to making a beautifully appealing statement, the professionals still turn to a classic solution that is literally centuries old: Hardwood Flooring.

The timelessness of hardwood flooring is, in effect, its own appeal. It’s hard to pass by a beautiful wood floor – rich in patina and telltale in grain – without appreciating how such natural beauty surely highlights a room.

Today’s hardwood flooring offers many options with a variety of styles that will satisfy just about any taste. From standard finishing options, sizes, and colors, top-quality hardwood flooring artisans, like those at Olde Wood Limited, are constantly developing new product lines and styles.

A Palette Of Endless Choices

Every year sees an increasing variety of stunning new styles incolors, shapes and sizes. Modern hues, light neutral tones, dark contrasts, and beautiful new versions of wide plank wood floors are now available.

In selecting a floor, the first consideration is color. Broadly speaking, will the end product be a light or dark floor? Aside from trends and presentation, some factors to consider include room size (lighter color floors add depth to small rooms) and foot traffic (darker floors absorb more sunlight). Does your customer want to achieve that color strictly by specie, or have a color treatment applied to match the desired hue?

The second aspect to consider is the texture and grain, which generally comes down to the preference of a smooth floor versus a floor with texture. The most trending hardwood floor textures are smooth, hand scraped and wire brushed textured surfaces. The trick is learning the “whats and the why” behind your customer’s selected sample swatches. Was it the grain, natural color, or a combination of grain with a specific color? At Olde Wood Limited, we are manufacturing and creating these trending styles on our luxury floors.

Solid or Engineered?

Sometimes this can be a hard decision to make, but if we take a look at the environmental conditions we can make this an easy process. The nice thing about our flooring is that no matter what you decide, the look will be the same from the top. We use the highest grade engineered core plywood for our engineered flooring made exclusively in our facility everyday and this makes a big difference in regards to performance and quality. While each has its share of intrinsic benefits, the decision is usually based on a number of factors, including surface grade level, climate, traffic, and price.

For decades, solid wood flooring was the standard and installed in almost every situation. Since then, many quality manufacturers have met the demand and challenges to produce an engineered floor, virtually indistinguishable from its solid counterpart. Using thick veneers and premium plywoods, Olde Wood Limited’s in-house engineering shop is able to create a lifetime engineered flooring product that will hold up to a variety of moisture, sub-grade location, heat and humidity factors. Olde Wood’s engineered flooring products not only include their domestic flooring lines, but their premium Antique Reclaimed lines as well. As a rule, if you are installing flooring below grade, near a large body of water, or in a harsh environment region, the best practice would be to consider an engineered hardwood floor over solid.

What Style?

Antique Reclaimed vs Traditional Plank vs Domestic

The Antique Reclaimed market has boomed in the last decade, however, materials are becoming less readily available for some manufacturers. Antique Reclaimed Wide Plank Flooring is very authentic, highly prized, and becoming more exclusive as each year passes. Traditional Milled Flooring is produced from mature, slowgrowth standing dead and fallen timber. Domestic Flooring is what we call graded lumber (e.g. Select White Oak, Clear White Oak, etc.) and is also available in a number of looks and widths. Determining which style you choose will be based on design elements, budget and taste. We suggest, instead of looking at thousands of options, decide on the color or look that fits your project and find an expert who can offer guidance in showing you a filtered assortment of options and styles that meet your criteria.

Pre-Finished or Site-Finished?

There are two key options regarding the finish of the floor, which involves a pre-finish at the manufacturer or having the contractor finish it on site. There’s a trade-off that has much to do with time and cost factors that go along with installation. It’s beneficial for contractors to know where their flooring is milled, and if selected, where it’s pre-finished. A site-finished floor is sanded and finished after the unfinished flooring is properly acclimated and installed – often with no bevel. Site finishing a floor also allows the highest level of customization and creativity. A factory-finished floor provides a product that is able to be installed and immediately lived on. There is no curing time or need for additional prep or sanding of the floor on-site. Whichever option works best for you, it’s important to work with a qualified installer who can give insight on their capabilities throughout the process.
