What’s Happening at NWFA: June Edition

Are you looking to get more involved in the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA)? Would you like to brush up your skills via an online class or in-person training? Below is a snapshot of some of the opportunities available from the NWFA in June 2024.

  • June 4: Wood Floor Repairs | Ponders Hollow Custom Moulding & Flooring – Westfield, MA. A one-day in-person course providing an introduction to advanced level repair work on finished floors, injection repairs, board replacements, factory-finished repairs, color matching, color theory, scratch and gouge repair, grain replacement, and collecting payment for the job.   • June 4-7: Basic Installation and Sand and Finish | Loba Wakol LLC – Wadesboro, NC. A four-day introductory level course for anyone who is new to the wood flooring industry. This course provides a broad overview of the wood flooring industry by combining the Basic Install with the Basic Sand and Finish courses. The curriculum includes a history of wood floors, understanding wood, an introduction to wood flooring tools and equipment along with their uses, installation of unfinished and factory finished solid & engineered flooring, nail, glue, and floating installation methods. Fundamentals of sanding and finishing wood flooring, practice with application of stains, sealers and finishes, and gives the attendee the opportunity to participate in the entire wood flooring process from installation to finishing.   • June 4-7: Intermediate Sand and Finish + Certification Testing | Basic Coatings – Bowling Green, OH. A three-day in-person intermediate level course for those with wood flooring experience. Includes in-depth training on general equipment maintenance, sanding multiple flooring types/species, unfinished/factory finished, engineered/multidirectional/parquet flooring. Also includes floor flattening methods, minimizing the scratch patterns and efficient use of the professional sanding equipment. On the finishing side, the attendee will learn about and practice with stain application, sealers, natural oils, waxes, colorants, reactive conditioners, finish application, scraping, recoats and final coat application, repairs, and board replacement.   • June 5: Wood Floor Sales + Certification Testing | Ponders Hollow Custom Moulding & Flooring – Westfield, MA. A one-day course providing instruction about different types of wood and their technical attributes as flooring products, how to sell real wood against “wood-look” floor coverings, and the benefits of real wood flooring. Also includes minimizing claims and call-backs, guiding the customer to the right species and floor type for their lifestyle, understanding appropriate installation methods and finishes for each project, and developing stronger customer relationships and loyalty throughout the selling process.   • June 11-14: Basic Installation and Sand and Finish | Lägler North America – Denver, CO. Update: This course is now a bilingual course. A four-day introductory level course for anyone who is new to the wood flooring industry. This course provides a broad overview of the wood flooring industry by combining the Basic Install with the Basic Sand and Finish courses.   • June 20: Subfloor Preparation | Syracuse, NY. A one-day in-person course providing an in-depth view of identifying and assessing wood substrate materials, preparation, installation methods over them, and claims. Includes testing for flatness, addressing floors that don’t meet NWFA or manufacturer tolerances, and assessing addressing high spots, low spots and unstable subflooring systems. Also includes using moisture meters to assess moisture content, dealing with wood subfloors, and opportunities to work with subject matter experts who will help you prepare and assess substrates prior to installation.   • June 20: Problems, Causes, Cures | Unique Wood Floors – Bloomington, MN. A one-day in-person providing an in-depth review of common problems, identifying their causes, and how to cure them. This workshop is customized to focus on region-specific issues. Read more.

  • June 21: Wood Floor Claims, Evaluations, and Inspections | Unique Wood Floors – Bloomington, MN. A 1-day in-person course that includes properly identifying an issue, its potential causes and cures, and dealing with disgruntled customers. Includes different testing methods and resources to determine the causes of the claim, working with inspectors, and understanding the inspection process. Read more.
  • June 25-28: Intermediate Sand and Finish + Certification Testing | Middle TN Lumber Co. – Clarksville, TN. A three-day in-person intermediate level course for those with wood flooring experience.
