AkzoNobel Shares Latest Color Trends

Akzo Nobel’s Global Color and Design team for Wood Coatings will provide insights into the latest color innovations and trends at the High Point Market in North Carolina.

The Global Color and Design team works to understand and interpret the impact of fashion and lifestyle on colors and effects used in paints and coatings. During the High Point Market, which takes place April 13-17, AkzoNobel experts will be sharing their insights into the color and design influences driving the home furnishings sector.

“Color influences our furnishings, our homes, and our lives. Sharing our research and expertise in color, texture, and finishes is at the heart of what we do as a company. Our aim is to work together with our customers to find the perfect solution for their needs, based on our long experience and in-depth market insights,” explains Bryan Hodges, color and design manager, wood coatings, at AkzoNobel.

Akzo Nobel’s 2024 Color of the Year is Sweet Embrace, a welcoming pastel pink inspired by soft feathers and evening clouds. The company says it reflects the findings of global trends – that in an uncertain world, people are looking for belonging and reassurance. Available in a variety of finishes and for different applications, Sweet Embrace is an opportunity for designers and woodworkers in furniture, flooring, cabinets and building products to provide a warm, calm, and liberating environment for customers.

To bring Sweet Embrace to life in real-world applications, AkzoNobel’s Global Wood Design has created three unique palettes, or “color stories,” all driven by the themes of belonging, calm and joy:

  • Transitional – a warm color story, combining shades of stone, soil, and clay.
  • Cottage – a calm color story, bringing together the soft greens and blues of the woods and the sea.
  • Contemporary – an uplifting color story, with dreamy lilacs, fluid grays and modern yellows.
