NWFA Partners with Middle TN Lumber for Manufacturing Day

The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) is partnering with Middle Tennessee Lumber (MTL) for Manufacturing Day. The event will be held at MTL’s mill location in Burns, Tennessee Friday, October 6.

Manufacturing Day is an annual celebration of modern manufacturing during which manufacturers invite members of their communities – including students, educators, business people, media, and politicians – to their facilities in an effort to educate them about career opportunities and to improve public perceptions about jobs in manufacturing.  Since the event started in 2012, the number of participating manufacturing facilities has increased more than 1,000%, engaging close to 596,000 attendees, of which, nearly 268,000 were students.  Currently, 977 individual events are scheduled for 2017 throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Middle Tennessee Lumber’s roots go back to the 1930s when its founder operated a saw mill in downtown Nashville. As business grew, two additional mills were opened on the city’s outskirts.  MTL became a family-owned business in 1985, establishing itself as one of the most diversified companies marketing lumber, flooring and mouldings across the US and internationally.

“We’re honored to partner with Middle Tennessee Lumber to host this important event,” says Stephanie Owen, NWFA Education & Member Engagement Director.  “Middle Tennessee has been a tremendous supporter of NWFA’s efforts to attract new generations to the industry, and this is just another example of their commitment to improving the industry as a whole.  Our hope is that we can use this event as a catalyst to develop additional programs for other NWFA members throughout the country.”

The Manufacturing Day event at MTL will include a factory tour, a presentation, and a hands-on activity designed to help participants gain insight into the careers available in the lumber and wood flooring industries.
