Precision Patterns: Parquet Flooring

This three-day in-person course is designed for experienced wood flooring professionals looking to master traditional square parquetry. Led by NWFA Regional Instructor Lenny Hall of Endurance Floor Co., participants explored the geometry and creative process that defines high-end parquet flooring. They also learned to identify and construct three classic patterns: Palace, Bordeaux, and Fontainebleau.

“I always pick up something from each class. I’ve made a few parquet patterns before, but nothing that can match the precision level of what we’ve done in this class,” says Dan Reddy of Reddy’s Hardwood Flooring in Addison, Illinois. “Learning more about the math involved and how to dial things in has been a great experience, and also it is always a pleasure to be surrounded by other like-minded individuals who have a passion for the trade and get to do what we love every day.”

“There always is a lot to learn in a class like this. You get to learn from both the other people in the class and instructors like Lenny Hall about parquet flooring,” says Cesar Cardona of Cardona Flooring in Stamford, Connecticut. “It might not be knowledge you have to use every day, but it doesn’t hurt to know. Now I can go back to my business with the knowledge to take on new jobs and know that I have someone I can reach out to if I ever need help going through the proper processes.”

Additionally, the course covered how to select wood grain for visual flow, design custom sleds and jigs for repeatable accuracy, and build frames for layout. Prerequisites for this
course include three years of installation experience and attendance at an NWFA Intermediate Installation School.

“I’ve done a few of these classes with the NWFA, and aside from the instruction, one of the main things I get from a class like this is the connection with other hardwood flooring professionals. The tricks I’ve learned from them and the connections I’ve made are priceless,” adds Adrian Molitor of Molitor Traditional Flooring in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. “As a result of attending classes like this, I now have contacts in my phone from all over the country that I can call to ask technical questions or get advice when things go wrong on the job. You cannot put a price tag on that. You get to come here, work the kinks out, learn from your mistakes, and do it while working with the best in the industry.”

NWFA hands-on workshops provide the opportunity to gain cutting-edge skills, master innovative techniques, and network with industry leaders. You’ll learn from NWFA Regional Instructors and manufacturer representatives showcasing cutting-edge products and expertise.
