Hardwood Hints

If your miter saw or table saw have a removable throat plate, especially one that is damaged, make your own out of thin plywood or hardwood. You will have to countersink the screw holes, but, once installed, just cut through it and – yippee-skippy! – you have a throat plate that is the width of your blade! This will tell you exactly where the blade will cut, and you won’t have to fish thin cuts out of your saw with a screwdriver. Keep your blade sharp and true to avoid widening your new plate.
