May Survey Results: COVID-19 Impacts

In late May, Hardwood Floors magazine sent a brief survey to readers to follow-up on how COVID-19 is continuing to impact the wood flooring industry.

About half of the individuals who responded to the survey were contractors and installers, with distributors being the next largest group to participate. More than 60 percent are open and working as usual; that’s a significant increase compared to the 25 percent who said they were open and working as usual when responding to this survey last month.

At the end of May, more than half of readers surveyed felt that business had begun to pick up. And, nearly 80 percent expect their business to eventually return to the way it was before COVID-19.

Increased sanitation and safety procedures continue to top the list of changes companies are implementing. About half of companies continue to cancel work travel and around 30 percent are working remotely. Other actions continuing to be taken include drive-through supply pick-ups, layoffs, furloughs, and virtual customer appointments. Less than 70 percent noted issues with supply.

Regarding federal economic relief measures, more than 60 percent had received funding from the Small Business Administration (SBA) Paycheck Protection Program, and 35 percent said they have not received any funding.
