State of the Industry 2016: Wood’s Roller Coaster Year

Wood flooring continues to gain market share on a square foot basis, but nine months into this year, Catalina Research estimated that share on a dollar sales basis was not faring as well due to a decrease in average selling prices and a drop in lumber prices early in the year. Lumber prices, however, began to strengthen this summer and U.S. manufacturers gained confidence enough to raise pricing. As well, an increase in square foot sales was led by U.S. suppliers as import shipments declined.
